The Musical Moments recital series at the Geneva Public Library will feature the “Outreach Ensemble” from the Rochester chapter of the American Recorder Society, on Friday, March 21, 2025, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the library’s reading room. The concert will last approximately an hour and is free and open to the public.
This ensemble’s members are recorder enthusiasts from the Rochester area. The program will include a range of music styles from medieval to modern.
Recorders are a family of woodwind instruments in the group known as internal duct flutes: flutes with a whistle mouthpiece, and positioned vertically unlike modern flutes. This ensemble will feature soprano, alto, tenor, and bass recorders.
The recorder was first used in Europe in the Middle Ages and continued to enjoy wide popularity in the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
The sound of the recorder is often described as clear and sweet, and has historically been associated with birds and shepherds and can produce a wide variety of tone colors and special effects.
Musical Moments is possible thanks to sustaining financial gifts from Jane Crumlish, the Foundation for Geneva Public Library, and the efforts of volunteers. To find out more about volunteering, please visit here.
